Foundations of Modern Political Thought-Renaissance Foundations of Modern Political Thought - Renaissance Book Description Another classic of the history of thought studies in Turkish. Quentin Skinner's two-volume research, first published in 1978, made him one of the most important historians of Western political thought. In the first volume of his Foundations of Modern Political Thought, the British historian discusses the political ideologies in fierce struggle in Europe in the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. It explains how the Italian Republics, the Holy Roman Empire, the Papacy and the newly developing regional kingdoms employed and shaped political thought in the war for sovereignty. There is something unique about Quentin Skinner's work that distinguishes it from traditional works dealing with the history of political thought. While the author deals with the most important thinkers of the period such as Dante, Marseille, Erasmus and Machiavelli, he places them in the literary environment of their age. Thus, it gives the reader the opportunity to see not only the classical texts, but also how these texts interact with the more marginalized thinkers and works of their time. The work, which received the Wolfson History Prize in 1979, is now considered one of the classics of modern historical scholarship. While the work offers students a good introduction to the political thought of the period, it also shows researchers a different approach to the interpretation of historical texts.
