Urban transformation or restructuring has become one of the most important social issues for some time. Especially in recent years, city planning, with its agendas such as the transformation in Istanbul, new gentrification projects, the swelling of the housing sector, and the phenomenon of migration, has become talked about not only with its practical results, but also with its impact on social memory and shaping. Who is responsible for the current situation of a chaotic and constantly under construction city like Istanbul has always been a current question for architectural circles, intellectuals, academics and intellectuals. The answer, especially in expert circles, is Adnan Menderes and the development plan he initiated in the 1950s.

In this work, Murat Gül exhibits the historical and ideological background of the urban transformation that Istanbul experienced and did not experience since the Late Ottoman and Early Republic periods. The ideological approach of the government towards Istanbul during the period when the Ottoman Empire evolved into the Republic of Turkey and Ankara was declared the capital, the traces of the French urban planner Henri Prost, the Democratic Party period that came to power with the introduction of the multi-party process, and the "countryside" Menderes's role in Yassiada. By detailing the zoning plan, which was used as a major trump card in the trials, it examines the impact of social and political conditions on urban morphology in the example of Istanbul, contrary to the approach that focuses only on the physical formation of cities.
