Modern Ermeni Edebiyatı
Aras Publishing, which started its publishing life in 1993, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Modern Armenian Literature, the 140th book of Aras Publishing, which is described as "the window opening to Armenian literature" with the publication policy it has followed over the last twenty years, was prepared specially for the 20th anniversary of the publishing house.
This voluminous work of Professor Kevork Bardakjian, one of the leading academics in the field of Armenian literature, remains one of the main reference books even though thirteen years have passed since its first publication in English.
Modern Armenian Literature sheds light on the last five hundred years of Armenian literature, which has a written tradition of more than 1,500 years. The book reveals the adventure of the Armenian literary tradition from the beginning of the 16th century until the 1990s within a historical background accompanied by social, cultural, religious and political developments.
In the introduction part of the study, there are sections discussing the general history of literature, as well as valuable analyzes on the works of more than 150 writers. The second part of the book is a comprehensive reference source that brings together the biographies of nearly 400 writers, their works, books translated into other languages, and critical articles written on all of them.
Modern Armenian Literature, which crowns the 20th anniversary of Aras Publishing, is a candidate to fill a big gap in Turkish literature. As a publishing house, we hope that this comprehensive study will encourage those who are interested in the subject to read more and strengthen the role of literature in the rapprochement of peoples.
"Modern Armenian Literature is a pioneering work in its field. It will be an extremely useful resource for in-depth research and studies at all levels on Eastern and Western Armenian literature and post-genocide literature."
-Vahe Oshagan-
"Modern Armenian Literature performs a great service by providing a source of knowledge that researchers have had to rely on personal notes and receipt catalogues until today. Kevork Bardakjian is an extremely meticulous researcher. The book will be of great benefit to the general reader with its historical account and bringing together works translated into other languages. quality."
