Mitostan Felsefeye
History is a continuous movement that is inherently undivided. Historical events reveal historical reality by moving with multi-directional causality. The aim of historical studies is to comprehend this historical reality and make it understandable. Learning history means learning the historical reality that tries to show itself behind the events.
We come across such findings: “People used to believe in myths. All his knowledge was limited to the stories that formed myths. Then philosophy began and the age of myths ended; Then the positive period began and philosophy was replaced by science..."
However, myths did not end with the beginning of philosophy, nor did philosophy end with the beginning of science. These are always within each other.
A development may reveal the event of which it is the main cause after various events. For example, the foundations of the great cultural movement we call Renaissance were laid in the early Middle Ages; While the medieval sages were establishing the medieval enlightenment, they were also preparing the Renaissance. This happened over a period of nearly a thousand years. What is important is the movement called history, which creates the result, rather than the result.
Is the historical process a repetition or a development, maturation, initiation? The historical event gives the apparent impression of repetition; When understood as an essence that embodies itself behind the visible, it is a development, initiation, and the essence's progress towards its final and most perfect state.
The history of philosophy is an interpretation. There are many histories of philosophy, and each explains philosophy according to its own understanding. The present work, From Myth to Philosophy, is based on the philosophy of living as a field of interpretation.
Attilla Erdemli, who examines the relationship between myth and philosophy in a wide period from Chaos to Olympos, from Thales to Anaximenes, removes the imaginary walls between these two fields and enables history and thought to be seen with a new eye.
