The Adventures of Mister Pickwick
The Adventures of Mister Pickwick, first published as a serial, is Dickens' first novel and brought him great fame. Samuel Pickwick, the founder of the Pickwick Club, and his three friends travel from London to many places in England to make so-called scientific observations and meet many people; Various events happen to them; Thus, by the end of the novel, which can be described as picaresque, a social picture of England at the beginning of the 19th century with its villages, cities, inns, courtrooms and people, drawn with a sense of humor, emerges.
Especially in the tenth chapter, with the inclusion of the quick-witted character Sam Weller, who has gone through the circles of fate, into the novel as the personal servant of the naive and idealist Mister Pickwick, the work gained the appreciation of the masses, and the readers started to talk about Sam Weller jokes. There are many critics who compare Sam Weller and Mister Pickwick to Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.
