what I hum
LAST DAYS OF A YEAR
one.
another year is ending
It's that clear, that simple
It has changed hands so much
Another ordinary truth
Our lives with arms tied
How to include the last days of a year in a poem
at every end, at every beginning and every time
It's like we're taking someone else in front of us
Draw the curtains, turn off the lights
Sitting alone in bed and questioning ourselves
Learning the twin's native language, our second memory
learning the glacial relationships of reckoning with ourselves
We see as we wander through the corridors of these mirrors
the ornaments of our dark days
As the last days of the year end
We know that calendars do not determine the seasons of change
youth afternoons
We were a confused child ever since we grew up.
