The articles compiled in this book discuss various aspects of a century-old history and current developments. The book also explores the possibilities and problems of the globalization process. According to Keyder, it is wrong to think of this process through a monolithic "West". On the contrary, the most important "clash of civilizations" that will determine the future of the world is currently taking place between the models represented by the USA and Europe. The crossroads facing Turkey go far beyond a simple geopolitical choice; it means making a vital decision in terms of governance style, socio-economic order and state-society relations.
