Marcel Boll, who aims to convey the basic concepts of mathematics and the historical development of mathematics to the reader in an easily understandable way, introduces his book as follows: "The reader will not encounter any attempt to teach him anything in these pages. Since our main goal is to be intuitive, stimulating and understandable, we have given up on a chronological narrative, a selection. Instead, we found it appropriate to present some of the prominent main ideas from their beginnings to the present, without skipping the wrong steps, by illuminating each of them with examples taken from daily life, with numerous charts and figures, and without neglecting their interconnections. "This work aims to provide a very general overview of the structure of this living and very human science, which is so closely tied to the techniques of the material universe and human endeavor."
