Seagull
In his letter to theater critic and dramaturg AS Suvorin in 1895, Chekhov describes The Seagull as follows: "A four-act comedy with a view (the lake will be visible in the background), with three female and six male characters; lots of literary chatter, little action, "Eighty kilos of love... Contrary to all dramaturgy rules, the play will begin forte and end pianissimo." Indeed, in this play, he turned the traditional plot of the 19th century upside down and discovered new forms, just like the young playwright Treplev in The Seagull. By emulating real life, he juxtaposes the worldly, everyday and ordinary with the important and serious. The characters of the play are very busy with themselves, their expectations from life, and their longings. All seek success, happiness and wholeness. The overwhelming longing for them is to be somewhere else; A feeling that opportunities are wasted, hopes are frustrated, is the main characteristic of Chekhov.
