In a world besieged by environmental disasters and economic crises, the importance of ensuring a productive exchange of views among all schools of ecological thought is clear. This book responds to such a need by providing an introduction to economics for ecologists and a general overview of ecology for economists.

Is there an incompatibility between the method and concepts of Ecological Economics and its fulfillment of its commitments to multidisciplinarity, methodological pluralism and historical openness? If so, can the Marxist class perspective as a material-social production relationship respond to these expectations of Ecological Economics? These are the main questions that the book focuses on and tries to find answers to. These questions are developed by revealing the contradictions, analytical gaps and unanswered questions of Ecological Economics and showing how Marxism can help solve these questions. Accordingly, the contributions of Marxist political economy to Ecological Economics can be grouped under four main headings: nature and economic value, nature as capital, the importance of the law of entropy in terms of economic systems, and finally sustainable development.

With these features, the book is the first work that builds the foundations of the dialogue between Marxist political economy and Ecological Economics and makes a general evaluation of Ecological Economics from a Marxist perspective.
