Malafrena
Malafrena, written by Ursula K. Le Guin in 1979, takes place in Orsinya, the fictional country we know from some of the author's other stories. However, as in the author's other novels, although the setting is imaginary, the depicted environment and the issues discussed are extremely realistic. Orsinya is a country where censorship silences people, restrictions prevent any form of dissent, and the government is rigid and rigid. The protagonist, Itale Sorde, who lives with his family in the Malafrena Valley, leaves the safe family land and goes to the capital where political turmoil prevails, to fight against these conditions. His goal is to contribute to the liberation of society in line with his revolutionary ideals - but despite all his good intentions, he learns that this is not easy at all.
Malafrena, where themes such as freedom, revolution, the inevitable conflict between ideals and reality and the disappointment brought by this conflict, love, the search for identity and belonging come to the fore, proves that Le Guin is a master writer not only in fantasy literature but also in realistic literature. a novel.
