Mai ve Siyah

In Mai ve Siyah, Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil has revealed the socio-cultural situation of a period. In the novel, the author has tried to present the life of the period from Ahmet Cemil's point of view to the reader. Mai ve Siyah has become a novel that brings to the agenda the social problems of its period. The author has explained some of the problems of its period to the readers through its heroes. In this novel, Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil deals with the poet ideal of his generation and describes the art and press world of that time with very realistic lines in places. 'There, these lights, as if pouring from the skies, glittering here and there at the foot of this slope opposite, glittering here and there in the blackness of the sea; there they are dancing; they are raining; they are also a baran-ı diamond, but they rain from bottom to top like eyes that are obsessed with high things in life; 'to those skies, those smiling lights are raining down on the shaking air.'
