In Matter and Meaning, Saffet Murat Tura, on the one hand, questions the solutions offered by modern philosophy of mind to problems such as brain-meaning and brain-consciousness, and on the other hand, shows the phenomenological illusion behind the interactionist duality problem that has dominated classical metaphysics since Descartes. He develops a dialectical materialist theory of meaning and a Marxist metaphysics that tends to overcome the body-mind duality in order to solve problems such as how meaning can be defined as a material feature, what are the origins of rationality in nature, the place of socio-linguistic meaning in nature, and the connection of linguistic hermeneutics with naturalistic hermeneutics. He puts forward the thesis that the original presentation of dialectical materialist natural philosophy defended here is the metaphysical horizon that does not conflict with the physics and biology knowledge of the age we live in.
