Madam Bovary
The work is about the situations and relationships that Emma Bovary, the wife of doctor Charles Bovary, who is good-hearted and lives an ordinary life, and who has high ideals and a passion for extreme luxury, enters in order to escape the monotony of life.
The author used the observer aspect of realism while explaining the inner worlds of the characters. Madame Bovary, considered by some authorities to be the first contemporary realist novel, was first published in 1857.
The behavior of the main character, Emma Bovary, aroused great repercussions in her time, Flaubert had to go to court to have the entire book published, and the author was exposed to various criticisms and accusations for many years.
The novel, which emerged as a reaction to the idealist approach of romanticism, is one of the first and most important examples of the realism movement.
After this book, the 'bovarism' movement was formed and dissatisfaction took place in psychology as a disorder that means dissatisfaction.
