My Memories from Lice to Paris
Tarik Ziya Ekinci became a witness and subject of Turkey's recent history in his life, which started in Lice in 1925. First of all, in the history of the Kurds... In the tense atmosphere of the 1940s and 1950s, he experienced the process called "Kurdish awakening" or "Kurdish enlightenment". As a Kurdish intellectual in the 1960s, he was one of the actors in the continuation of this process. As a member of parliament and executive of the Workers' Party of Turkey (TIP), he was also a part of the rise of the left in the 1960s. He was among the founders of the Second TIP and took part in the harsh political struggles of the 1970s. After the military coup of September 12, 1980, he was detained and arrested many times, and then lived as a political refugee in France for years. From the 1980s to the present, he has been involved in discussions about Kurdish identity and the Kurdish problem. While my Memories from Lice to Paris reflect all this rich experience, it also critically reads the history it witnessed.
The Kurdish issue is not just about the left and politics. Tarik Ziya Ekinci's memoirs.
There is Lice and Diyarbakır of his childhood and youth; There are scenes of daily life, from student to refugee; There are medical experiences, friendships, human states... Scenes from a full life and an accounting of a never-ending active political witness...
