Dry Water
A novel by Engin Geçtan about Istanbul, set in December 2012, when the climate was turned upside down: Dry Water.
"The storm has stopped, the snow continues to fall, the flakes are getting thinner. The usual awakening sound of the city is silent this morning. The sounds of horns, the hum of a thousand sounds, the whistles of ferries have given way to a white-covered silence. Everyone is waiting for someone else to return to life. Seagulls, pigeons, sparrows are after a few crumbs. The barking of hungry street dogs who have not yet discovered the bodies of the frozen homeless and the unfortunate ones who got caught in the blizzard at the wrong time and place are heard in some of the deserted streets. The Bosphorus, which is closed to maritime traffic, is experiencing one of the rare loneliness in its history. The water is an unusual color, a mixture of gray, green and blue, with the mourning of having swallowed a boat full of people in the night. He didn't want it to be like this either, but the storm had driven him crazy, little "he was in no condition to see a passenger boat."
