Kürt Tarihini Yeniden Okumak
Why was identity building delayed among Kurds?
This question remains current and important not only for political Kurds but also for social scientists from various disciplines. Undoubtedly, many discussions and explanation attempts can be mentioned that have arisen from the search for answers to this question. Indeed, there are many reasons that explain the delay, but another question that is at least as interesting as the first one is: What is the most important factor that causes the delay in the Kurds' struggle for their own identity?
Among the peoples of the Ottoman Empire, the Kurds were the last to enter the process of nationalization. Therefore, the Kurds were the last people to meet modernization compared to the neighboring peoples and communities around them. Here are the historical conditions that determined the formation of the problematic of "Kurds and Identity": To the extent that the Kurds were delayed in the processes of nationalization and modernization, the formation of a "modern Kurdish identity" was also delayed.
And the Kurds are still struggling for this today...
In the book you have, Naci Kutlay attempts to re-read Kurdish history within the continuity and relationality of Islam - Ottoman - Republic. In parallel with this reading, Kutlay tries to place the parameters of modernization, urbanization and nationalization at the center of the discussions about the Kurds' search for an identity of their own and their struggle on this path.
