Kurdish Cinema: Homelessness, Border and Death
Only in the 21st century did Kurds begin to make films with their own identity and language; After a century in which the art of cinema had passed a century and all the cinemas of the country experienced repetition in the story. The representation of Kurdish cinema with more films in international festivals every day, and the awards won by Bahman Ghobadi and Hiner Saleem after a legend like Yilmaz Güney, enabled Kurdish youth to turn to cinema. Cinema has almost become the most important means of 'self-expression' for Kurds. In this context, Kurdish cinema cannot avoid being a lost cinema of a lost country within its borders. Nevertheless, Kurdish films, which are attempted to be shot with hope and stubbornness, represent a people who were closed/forced to remain introverted for various historical, political and economic reasons, now speaking out and opening up to the outside world.
