Kullervo'nun Hikayesi
Kalervo's son, Kullervo, is perhaps the darkest and most tragic of the dozens of characters created by Tolkien. Because, in Tolkien's words, "Unfortunate Kullervo" is an unfortunate orphan with supernatural powers and a sad fate.
Raised by the dark wizard Untamo, who killed his father, kidnapped his mother, and tried to kill him three times when he was a little boy, Kullervo has nothing but his love for his twin sister Wanona and the magical black dog Musti who watches over him. Sworn to take revenge on the sorcerer after being sold as a slave, Kullervo will learn that even in the moment of revenge there is no escape from the cruelest disaster.
The Tale of Kullervo is a fundamental step in Tolkien's path from adaptation to creativity, resulting in "The Silmarillion". While Tolkien called Kullervo's Tale "my starting point in my attempt to write my own legends," he also said that it was "the basis of the legends of the Ancient Ages," pointing out that this text was the ancestor of Túrin Turambar, the protagonist of the Children of Húrin.
In addition to being an impressive story, this book also includes drafts, notes, articles published for the first time, and additional texts written by Tolkien about the Kalevala epic, which is one of the starting points of the worlds he created.
