Curve of the Eardrum
The movement of the eardrum from bottom to top and from inside to outside is not vertical; Just like in the structure of Foucault's Pendulum, space expands in this way. As the effect of vibrations spreads, non-existent sounds emerge; The inaudible becomes audible, an increase in the intensity of vibration is felt. It is as if the space has expanded and more breath has entered, thanks to the vibration of the sounds. Just as the ribcage expands and contracts during the breathing process, the space opens up to a sensation as if it is expanding thanks to vibrations. As observed in birds, the subtlety of communication results from the curvature of the eardrum. Then the eardrum is the chassis. What the artist does here is to make the space strange, to bend the sounds, and in this way to accelerate the philosophical threshold, to bring the sound coming from the outside inside and the effect of the inside to the outside. Just as a tilted space can project its interior outside, the Panthéon (the monumental building in France where Sarkis' exhibition was held) also gives its tilt to the space, thanks to the artist's ear drum. Here the border opens towards infinity, and while the edges slide towards the center, the center can also extend itself outwards.
