Köy Enstitüsü Yılları
Village Institutes, which were established by the law dated 17 April 1940 and are educational institutions unique to Turkey, are one of the most talked about and discussed institutions. These institutions, which aim to develop the villages as soon as possible by training teachers, agricultural and health workers to work in the villages, and operate with a production-oriented education approach, faced intense criticism from conservative circles and the Democratic Party after the transition to the multi-party regime. And the Village Institutes, whose educational programs were first combined with the programs of classical primary schools, were eventually completely closed down.
Village Institute Years consists of the memoirs of a writer who grew up in this institution, Talip Apaydin, about his student years. In his last meeting with Hakki Tonguç, the founder of the Village Institutes, upon Tonguç's words, "How did you enter the Institute, how did you study, how did you come to this situation, one of you tell me about this?", Apaydin said, "Even though it is late, I am fulfilling this duty." With his clear and sincere narration, he conveys the reality of the Village Institutes first-hand.
