Kızıl-Modern Klasikler Dizisi 116
In Red, one of his youth works, Zweig tells the story of a young medical student who goes to Vienna to study, adapting to the reality of the big city and stepping into adulthood. This "childish" young man, who suddenly found himself alone in a cold room away from his family, came to the point of giving up his dreams and the medical education he had embraced with great enthusiasm at the beginning, due to the depression he fell into over time. Just then, a girl who had scarlet fever and needed his help calls him back to life... This narrative from 1908 is proof that Zweig had already become a novella master at that time. Moreover, the author pursued a theme that we often encounter in his later works, at the beginning of his career; It reveals that he has always been concerned about the suffering of people who are too fragile to survive in a cruel world.
