Kitab-ı Siyah Kalem
Gülfem Pamuk tries to approach one of the difficult issues of history, an enigma, with her award-winning and large-sized first book, Kitab-i Black Pen. Nakkas Mehmed looks at the untraceable identity of Black Kalem through the thesis of a young doctoral student. Muammali Mehmed is reading Black Pen from the period of Fazlullah Esterabâdî, one of the provocative characters of history. This view and this reading proceed with a parallel fiction through two female characters. Esma and Elif. The names are Esma and the sheikh of letters Fazlullah and the "evil" Nakkas; Elif next to Lam or Lam next to Elif. One is the names, the other is the letters.
The author discusses a very difficult issue within the wide possibilities of the novel. The reader asks: "Is this really a first novel?" The question remains safe. Love is the basis of everything, says Kitab-i Black Pen. And he adds, wasn't the world created with love? When did the devil's ear hear this story? Tell me, when?
