Red and black
Stendhal, the founder of the psychological novel, creates Julien Sorel, one of the most important characters of world literature, with his religious education, loves and passions, in the midst of the political debates of the French Restoration.
Stendhal, 1840.
Born in a small town in France, the son of a lumberman, Julien Sorel was seized by the ambition of advancement at a young age. Sorel, who draws attention with his hard work and religious education, wishes to leave this town as soon as possible and go to Paris. Thus, the contradictions between red and black begin. In order to rise under the conditions of Restoration France, young Sorel has two options: Either he will start his rise on the Church path by choosing black, or he will start his rise on the military path by choosing red. However, the religious education he received on the one hand and his secret admiration for Napoleon on the other will make it difficult for him to make this choice. Moreover, the two different women, two different loves that he will encounter on this passionate path will cause him to find himself in very different places.
