In Breaking Point, Yiğit Bener writes about the August 17 Gulf earthquake: Selin, a lecturer, decides to write a novel that deals with the lives destroyed in this earthquake, but also the extraordinary human solidarity that came from within the country and abroad. The plot, which progresses in three different ways, conveys both the emotional earthquake Selin experienced during this writing process, her novel in which she questions the order that collapsed under the rubble and the thought patterns she sees as the cogs of that order, and the critical comments of her friend Levent in America, with whom she shared her writings, about the novel.

"We lived that night. What happened was so heavy that our minds could not cope, and sent many emotions to the subconscious without being able to record them. Some of us will say that we found the guilty, some of us rushed to help as much as we could, some of us were paralyzed with fear, and some of us rejected the earthquake altogether, ignoring it. (...) This book tells about an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4, lasting for forty-five seconds, in which twenty thousand people died according to official records; and the billions of souls who die every second in the narrow molds of the order. Breaking Point is a book written with harsh words. It could not have been written in any other way. It shakes."
