Broken Wings
Gibran's novel Broken Wings , published in 1912, is also one of the first novels written in the Arabic language. The story of the impossible love between Selma Karami and the young man believed to be Gibran is a love confession in the taste of pastoral poetry. In this penetrating text, Gibran tackles social issues such as the corruption of the clergy and women's rights for the first time in Arabic literature. It presents a critical attitude towards the helplessness of Eastern women in the face of tradition for centuries and their being dragged from place to place like objects.
