The ninth book of the series consisting of Simenon's novels translated by the great masters of Turkish literature is written by the author in 1934 under the name La Lacataire and is written by Nurullah Ataç. Kiralık Oda, which was translated into Turkish in 1953.

The novel tells the story of Eli Nagear, a Turkish Jew of Portuguese origin, who grew up in Büyükada and the streets of Istanbul. Eli Nagear, who goes from Istanbul to Brussels to sell a carpet, but commits a murder without even thinking about it, gives up everything and tries to survive by hiding with the increasing "fear of being caught". He follows the investigation through the newspapers that arrive at the house where he enters as a boarder with the help of his girlfriend, Silvi. After a while, the family and the other residents of the house found themselves in a situation when they realized that the "wanted murderer" was staying in their house; Eli's mental and physical health deteriorates day by day; The family's struggle between protecting him and surrendering him is presented in an increasingly deepening psychological pattern. As the circle narrows, Simenon literally imprisons his reader in that rented room with Eli. It met Turkish readers with its translation. One of the French authors that Ataç translated most is Simenon. Considering his meticulousness in language and his contributions to Turkish, Ataç's translation adds a special value to the novel.
