Haiku is a form of expression and writing that emerged in Japanese literature. Haiku, which derives its power, impact and philosophy from its brevity and clarity, is the shortest text form known in world literature.
Butterfly Dreams brings together two hundred and seventy haiku from the great haiku master Baso (Matsuo Kinsaku), who lived in the 17th century. Apart from the Baso haikus that Oruç Aruoba, who met Baso for the first time in 1993, has studied, compiled, translated and annotated by comparing the translations in different languages since then, the book also includes a comprehensive haiku review of Aruoba as an "Introduction" and exemplary haikus from other masters. . Even though it has not become a separate tradition, the short form of discourse that forms the basis of haiku also has an important place in Turkish poetry - for this reason, we think that many of our readers will not feel alienated and will be able to establish a warm relationship from the very beginning.
ABOUT ORUÇ ARUOBA: He was born in 1948. Starting from 1973, he worked as an academician and lecturer at Hacettepe, Tübingen and Victoria-Wellington universities. He left the university in 1983, settled in Istanbul, worked in various publishing companies, and dealt with writing and translation work. There are translations from Hume, Nietzsche, Kant, Wittgenstein, Rilke, von Hentig, Celan and Baso.
