Katyn Katliamı
Berlin 1943. A month has passed since Stalingrad. Although Hitler insisted that Germany would win the war, the morale of the commanders at the front, who were better able to analyze the situation, began to decline. News was received that the Reds massacred Polish soldiers in Smolensk. In a rare agreement, the Wehrmacht and Propaganda Minister Goebbels wanted to have irrefutable evidence of this atrocity committed by the Russians, and Bernie Günther was sent to the region.
In Smolensk, Bernie encounters a class of Prussian noblemen who disdain a lowly Berlin cop like himself. But Bernie isn't about fitting in; He has much more important issues on his mind than good manners. Her only wish is to reveal the identity of the clever and ruthless killer before she herself becomes his victim.
"Riveting… Kerr makes everything seem easier than it is."
-Publishers Weekly-
"One day, World War II will end, and when that day comes, I don't know what we will do without Bernie Günther? My heart breaks."
-New York Times Book Review-
"Bernie Günther's novels are, by far, the best detective novels of our time."
