Kassandra-Modern Classics 143
East German writer Christa Wolf visited Greece with her husband Gerhard Wolf in 1980. A series of lectures given by the author at the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt in 1982 attracted great attention. The fifth and last of these conferences was the draft of the novel you have. In her novel, which emerged as a result of her travels and research in Greece, the author retells the fall of Troy from the perspective of the seer Kassandra, a woman whose power to see the future is despised. This unfortunate woman focuses on patriarchy and the destruction caused by war in her impressive monologue. The drama of Kassandra, who foresees future disasters but cannot convince anyone of her prophecies, brings to mind the fate of the far-sighted and conscious people of our age.
