Once upon a time, there lived a man named Albinus in Berlin, Germany. He was rich, respected, happy: one day he left his wife for a young mistress: he loved and was not loved, and his life ended in disaster. How many master writers do you know who "show their hand" in the very first paragraph, with the sly smile of a master gambler or a very confident magician on his face? ? There are not many of them... Vladimir Nabokov is a great stylist, one of the most unique writers of the 20th century, who argues that good literature comes from the person who tells the story rather than the 'story' and who always surprises his readers. Laughter in the Dark, which brutally mocks bourgeois marriage, is one of his Berlin period novels, just like 'Masenka', 'The Eye', 'Call to Execution'. It was published in Russian under the name Camera Obskura in 1932, then translated into English by its author and revised in 1960. In the words of one critic, this is "a cruel masterpiece"; It takes its reader from the most "photo-novel" situation to the darkest abyss of what is called "human comedy".' We present this little masterpiece of the author of 'The Real Life of Sebastian Knight', 'Literature Lessons' and of course 'Lolita', with the masterful translation of Pinar Kür, who conveys the author's dark laughter into Turkish with the same chilling effect.
