Karanlık Bir Dünyada Bilimin Mum Isıgı
Scientific thought promised humanity truth and prosperity, and because it fulfilled this promise, it was accepted as a guide by most of humanity. But the light of science is as weak and defenseless as a candle flame in the face of the darkness that surrounds it. In order for this flame not to go out, scientists must continue to fight against this darkness and those who benefit from it.
Carl Sagan asks how we can continue to move toward truth and prosperity if we cannot distinguish the myths produced by ways of thinking such as pseudoscience, New Age beliefs, and fundamentalist fanaticism from testable scientific hypotheses.
According to Sagan, if we do not take science as our guide, we cannot think for ourselves, we cannot question authority, and as a result, we will turn into play dough in the hands of those who govern states; However, when citizens receive a scientific education and can produce their own ideas, those who govern states will work for the people , not for themselves.
“It clearly explains what science is and why it makes a difference... A tribute to the power of science and a warning against the dangers of excessive credulity...”
