A writer and her old maid who helps her with the housework. At first, they have difficulty understanding and accepting each other. Over time, a conflictual and almost passionate relationship is established between the author and this independent, distant mother figure, whose childhood and youth traumas are woven together with the recent history of Hungary, resembling tragic heroes. Brave, wise Emerenc, who understands the language of animals and humans, makes the author question what he knows to be true about life, art and death.

'How could he be so attached to me even though he was so different from me? To be honest, I couldn't understand what he loved about me... As I wrote before, I was still young at that time, I had not yet deeply examined how irrational, deadly and unreliable attachment was (...) Our mutual devotion, like love, was the result of some undefined compounds, because we loved each other. 'We had to make a lot of concessions to accept it.'

This novel, written by Magda Szabo with a subtle and sad sense of humor and containing autobiographical elements, won her the Femina award, one of France's most prestigious awards in the foreign novel category, in 2003.

Bulunmayan kitapların bulunduğu, kaliteli hizmetin adresi, ender bir kitapevi...İsminin kürtce olması da ayrıca sebeb-i tercîhim...
