Empire and Power in the Age of Suleiman the Magnificent
Kaya Şahin, a research assistant at Indiana University's Department of History, brings together a revisionist political history narrative from the perspective of Celalzade Mustafa, the number one bureaucrat of the empire, and a detailed reading of Nisanci's works in his work titled Empire and Power in the Age of Suleiman. The first part of the book offers a new assessment of 16th-century Ottoman history, taking into account the internal conflicts among the Ottoman elite and the competition in the international arena. In the third part, he discusses the formation and function of the institutions of the new empire and the cultural and political discourse that accompanied these institutions.
While Empire and Power in the Age of Suleiman went beyond traditional approaches and placed the 16th century Ottoman Empire and other political formations in Eurasia within the common time and space rendered invisible by the Eurocentric perspective, the European politics of the Ottoman Empire, which was in direct relationship with the Safavid and Habsburg dynasties, He also underlines that he plays an active role.
