Kaledibi Sokağı
Kaledibi Street, where Bilgin Adalı tells the story of the two years they migrated to Antalya before starting primary school, is actually a warm story of family and growing up. Focusing on the years 1949-1950, the book shares his observations about life through the eyes of a child who will become a writer in the future, while also mirroring the childhood of that period. A text that is sometimes sad, sometimes makes you laugh, and can be read in one breath.

“Kaledibi Street was a narrow street consisting of a row of old houses and a row of stones as tall as three men - an old castle wall. At the bottom of the walls of the houses lined up at the bottom of the street, there was a tiny arc through which cool water flowed with a pleasant murmur even on the hottest day of Antalya. There was a small garden or courtyard in front of almost every house. The pools in the courtyards were filled with water coming from this arc. Domestic water was provided from this water.
One day, Nuri, the middle son of our next-door neighbor Ahmet Kaptan, saw me floating small pieces of wood in the water of this lake as a boat, and one day he made me a boat from pine bark. It had a mast in the middle, a sail made of a piece of cloth tied to the mast, and even a tiny flag on top of the mast. “I would feel like a real captain while steering my pine bark boat through the water of the arc.”
