Except for the first of the stories in Kağnı, the other twelve were written and published between 1935-1936. These stories about Sabahattin Ali's disagreements and conflicts with the system and what he heard from prisoners during his prison life are indisputable proof that he has mastered language and expression.

Sabahattin Ali (1907-1948) graduated from Istanbul Teachers' School in 1928. After working as a secondary school teacher in Yozgat, he passed the exam held by the Ministry of Education and went to Germany in 1928.
He studied in Potsdam and Berlin for two years; While he was teaching German in Aydın and Konya, he was arrested for political reasons. He spent 3 months in Aydın and 1 year in Konya and Sinop prisons. After his release, he worked as a German teacher in Ankara, and as a translator, teacher and dramaturg at Ankara State Conservatory. He was appointed to the ministry in 1945. He went to Istanbul in 1946. In the same year, he started publishing the weekly humor newspaper Markopaşa with Aziz Nesin. Many of his articles published here were investigated. After 4 months of imprisonment, he started trucking in 1948.
With his anxiety about being constantly watched, he wanted to escape from Kırklareli to Bulgaria with his truck and was killed in the process. The location of his grave is still unknown. He started his career in literature with poems, stories and criticism in magazines such as Çağlayan, Servetifünun, Resimli Ay, Yedi Meşale, Varlık. 1943) followed. In his works, he dealt with the Anatolian people left to their own devices, the village-city contradiction, and people who died, were murdered, and were imprisoned under harsh economic conditions. He became one of the pioneers of our realistic literary movement by depicting his characters by focusing on the conflicts arising from the social structure. The stories of Sabahattin Ali, who produced works in many genres, have a special importance in his art. More than 60 of his stories were published in books such as Değirmen (1935), Kağnı (1936), Ses (1937), Yeni Dünya (1943), and Sırça Köşk (1947).
