Woman and Her Body
While the concept of beauty found a place in spiritual studies in one period, parallel to the journey of humankind, in another period it was almost reduced to mathematical formulas. Beauty, in fact, is, in a sense, the examination of human aesthetic history and the "human body as an aesthetic object" in this historical process.
The female body has been the symbol of beauty in every period until today. The female body, which was oppressed by various prohibitions until the Enlightenment years, was prevented from being exhibited freely. On the other hand, even during the prohibited periods, the female body has ironically been a source of imaginative creativity in art, philosophy, etc. The fact that women perceive themselves as an object to be watched in society from an early age and always feel on a stage has become one of the main factors that facilitate the advancement of capitalist ideology in this direction. Today, women are stuck between an "other body" idealized by popular culture and their own body, which they are never satisfied with.
All the oppressive norms that women have internalized under the discourse of sexual abuse, discrimination, marginalization and beauty are aimed at keeping the female body under control.
The articles in this book aim to open up the violence that the female body, caught in the grip of beauty, is subjected to, voluntarily or involuntarily, for interdisciplinary discussion.
