When JRR Tolkien wrote The Hobbit, he was an amateur artist who had achieved a certain level of success. He drew illustrations for the book while it was still in its draft stage. First Hobbit edition; It was published together with ten black and white pictures drawn by the author, two maps, binding and fireplace designs. He subsequently produced five more color drawings, which constitute some of his best works.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit, all of the author's works drawn by him for this text have been brought together in the book The Hobbit Illustrations by JRR Tolkien. Relevant paintings, more than a hundred sketches, drawings, paintings, maps and preliminary studies of plans, alternative versions and experimental designs meet the reader in this book, along with the final versions of the drawings. Some of these images are being published for the first time, and some are being published for the first time with their color drawings.
The Hobbit Illustrations by JRR Tolkien are edited by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull, leading experts on Tolkien.
