Roads are confused, families are torn apart, the desert is burning. The dust leaking from behind closed doors threatens life.
Dale and Hoa are going through depressed days, exhausted from the struggle with their difficult-to-manage son in his early twenties. Desiring to get away from their homes and themselves, they set out on a journey to Mexico. Peaceful holiday dreams evaporate in the hellish heat of the desert, in a world that is literally shattered into pieces. Their lives are in danger.
Poet/writer Forrest Gander has written this contemporary novel in a poetic language. He challenges the reader's senses with very detailed and vivid photographs taken at the expense of slowing down the flow in some places. Gander turns into a master editor on his journey as a language wizard, with his novel that picks up pace at unexpected moments and leaves the reader running after him, breathless.
Forrest Gander is the winner of the Pulitzer Prize in poetry in 2019.
Iz is the author's second novel translated into Turkish after The Poet's Farewell.
