History of Islamic Civilizations Volume 1
Corcî Zeydân, who came from a Lebanese Orthodox family, was one of the most important researchers of Islamic history, language and culture of the 19th century. Zeydân, who learned English, Latin, French, German, Hebrew and Syriac languages, wrote many works on Arabic language and literature in addition to history. In this famous work, which mainly deals with the pre-Ottoman period, Corcî Zeydân offers a very rich source on Islamic civilization and Arab peoples. This book, which is now considered a classical history of Islamic civilization, has been translated into Persian and Urdu as well as Western languages. It has been taught as a textbook in many universities, from Oxford University to the theology faculties in Turkey, for nearly a century.
Assistant Professor at Bilkent University Department of History. Assoc. Dr. We will publish this unique work, originally consisting of five volumes, which Necdet Gök translated into modern Turkish, expanded with footnotes and prepared for publication, in two volumes.
"I believe that Turkish readers are in great need of this important book, which was brought to our language by Dr. Nejdet Gök, enriched with footnotes and an introduction. Besides being an important cultural service, the publication of this classic work, which is accepted as a standard book especially in the Arab world, fills a big gap in the Turkish scientific community. It will also add richness to studies on Islamic history and civilization.
