Lapidus's History of Islamic Societies is a voluminous work that deals with the period from the emergence of Islam to the 1990s, on all the societies in which Islam spread and the historical, social, political and economic transformations these societies experienced. It was published in a single volume by the same publishing house as a result of the careful revision by Ira M. Lapidus of a more comprehensive research prepared in two volumes by Cambridge University Press. What gives the book its real value is that it does not only deal with political or economic history, but also includes the social, cultural and philosophical productions and discussions of Islamic societies as much as politics or economy. Due to the volume of the History of Islamic Societies book, it has been translated into Turkish in two volumes. The first volume covers the period from the emergence of Islam to the 19th century.
