Bediüzzaman Said Nursi's commentary on İşaratü'l-İ'caz, which he wrote on the battle front in the first years of the First World War, is, in his own words, a masterpiece because it is very witty, short and concise. This wonderful work, which only tries to explain the miraculous features and aspects of the Quran in its verse, is unfortunately limited to only one volume. In this one volume, only the commentary of Surah Al-Fatiha and the first 33 verses of Surah Al-Baqarah has been made.
It seems obvious that Master Said Nursi tried to make an interpretation mainly in terms of verse and meaning. Unfortunately, this powerful commentary initiated by Old Said failed at the beginning of the work, as circumstances forced him to focus on other subjects, and the commentary could not be completed. In the face of changing world conditions, the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, and the destructive and aggressive nature of the positivist and materialist philosophy ideologically imposed on the people, the inevitable necessity of writing a new work that would prevent generations from getting stuck in the swamp of blasphemy and heresy and that could resist the philosophical attacks of materialism caused the beginning of a new era in Bediuzzaman's life. it would happen. It was time to compose a new series of works to save the faith of generations. For this reason, the commentary of İşaratü'l-İ'caz, which could not be completed, became a core and core of the Risale-i Nur Collection, the compilation of which he would begin.
The method followed in İşaratü'l-İ'caz, which is above all a commentary on insight, is to try to reveal that the wonder in the verse of the Quran is the greatest evidence of its miraculousness. In most of the tafsir, the emphasis is on the collective meaning rather than explaining the words in the verses one by one. In İşaratü'l-İ'caz, analyzes are made by focusing on individual words and even letters instead of the collective meaning, and by taking into consideration the subtleties of words and letters in Arabic grammar, grammar and syntax. Bediuzzaman, who especially tries to prove that the wonder of the Qur'an's verse is the greatest evidence of its miraculousness, tries to explain the connections between verses and verses, verses and surahs, and surahs and surahs, starting from the compatibility between letters and sounds, within the framework of the rules of Arabic Literature such as sarcasm, syntax and rhetoric. .
