Iranian Cinema
When Abbas Kiarostami won the Golden Palm award at the Cannes Film Festival with his film "Taste of Cherry" in 1977, he placed Iran in the middle of the world cinema map. Since then, Iranian Cinema continues to surprise and shock the whole world with its fascinating achievements.
In this book, Hamid Dabasi, in the light of both his own analyzes and long interviews with the directors, draws on the old masters of cinema in Iran, Kimyayi, Mehrcuyi, Kiarostami, Beyzayi, Beni-Itimat and Muhsin Mahmelbaf, to today's great hopefuls such as Semira Mahmelbaf and Behmen Gubadi. It creates a general panorama of Iranian cinema, including its young directors.
After drawing attention to how cinema embellishes dreams in Iran, it reveals that, despite the strict censorship and control mechanisms following the Islamic Revolution, filmmakers managed to create an original narrative language rather than inhibiting their freedom of expression.
