İntibah - Cloth-bound Book Description In Namık Kemal's novel İntibah, published in 1876, it is told that Ali Bey, one of the well-educated young people of the period, fell in love with Mehpeyker and what Ali Bey went through as a result of this love. In Intibah, Namık Kemal deals with the position of men and women in social life, the institution of concubinage, weak-willed and inherited youth, revenge and personality delusions. It reveals the awakening (intuition) that occurs as a result of all these, through the tragedy experienced by the main male hero of the novel, Ali Bey, and his family. İntibah, which was first published in the year Namık Kemal returned to Istanbul from exile in Famagusta, was prepared for publication with notes by Fatma Akman, a lecturer at Boğaziçi University Turkish Courses Coordination Office. Its editor was Tülay Gençtürk Demircioğlu, a faculty member from the Turkish Language and Literature Department of the same university. The work has been translated with the aim of being as appropriate to the language and spirit of the period as possible but also understandable for today's readers. (From the Promotional Bulletin)
