Human Warehouse
Think of a warehouse full of people whose lives are occupied by concepts such as language, religion, nation, memory, identity and are caught in between. A huge warehouse full of people who have been exposed to mass violence, who are constantly trying to keep a culture and language on the brink of extinction, who have never stepped foot in the land they call home... Argentinian writer Ana Arzoumanian 'Human Warehouse: What does mass violence do to people?' In his book, he tries to analyze this warehouse of which he is a part. There are not only Armenians in this warehouse; Bosnians and Jews who suffered genocide and forcibly displaced refugees are also there. In Arzoumanian's essays, which describe the construction and destruction of identities, the treatment of the wounds caused by destruction, and the reconstruction process that will follow the treatment, we read what kind of damage a new person is caused, individually and socially, and what inextricable problems it causes when trying to become a new person before the treatment is completed. In 'Human Warehouse', Arzoumanian does not reach definitive conclusions while trying to understand the people who have seen disaster, are dispersed and lost, and does not neglect to leave areas open to interpretation and where the reader can ponder.
