Kurds in the Nineteenth Century through the Eyes of British Travelers
In this book, which is a first in the academic field, fifty-two travel books written by British travelers containing information about the Kurds were examined. According to the data obtained, the Kurds in the 19th century. In the 19th century, its administrative, religious, economic and social structure was systematically evaluated. This study is very important in that it contains data on recent Kurdish history, sociology and anthropology, and is also a useful resource for researchers and those interested in the subject.
With the information obtained from travelogues, it tries to holistically analyze the individual and social structure of the Kurds, which are less emphasized in different sources, and to reveal their daily life practices, and examines who the Kurds are, how they look, how they dress, why they fight, where and how they live, what they eat and drink. This study is the first to examine issues such as marriages, weddings, mourning, daily entertainment, rituals, what beliefs they have, what they respect, what they fear, how they get along, what economic activities they are interested in, what they like, what they complain about and how they are perceived by others. There are interesting information and findings that have come to light for the first time.
