Thoughts on Economics
This book brings together the most important articles written by Izzettin Önder, one of Turkey's leading Marxist economists, throughout his long career. The articles, which are the product of a study spanning 30 years, not only serve as an example of Önder's use of science for workers, but also feature the struggle diary of a scientist. Although the majority is in the field of economics, articles covering various fields of social sciences are clustered under three main headings.
In eight articles under the title "Theoretical Articles", economic systems, the dynamics of the systems' functioning, crises and the relationship between Islam and the economic system are discussed.
The second part, titled "Articles on Turkey", which includes fifteen articles, focuses on Turkey's economy, financial structure and problems. Interesting topics such as the 1961 Constitution and its economic function, statism, privatization, relations with the IMF, regional imbalance, tax system and comparison of the tax systems of Japan and Turkey are also discussed in this section.
In the third part, which is shorter than the other two parts, İzzettin Önder directs his economist's perspective to various areas of life. University autonomy and scientific freedom, social alienation, bioeconomy, the Kurdish issue, and publicity in academic referee and jury systems are some of these issues.
Thoughts on Economics is an important resource for both the academic world and readers interested in social issues.
