Ideal State
Farabi (870-950): Turkish-Islamic philosopher, astronomer, musician. He is one of the most important figures of the Golden Age of Islam. Farabi completed his higher education in Baghdad and took lessons from famous scholars of the time. He studied the works of Aristotle and Plato and tried to reconcile the philosophies of these two philosophers with Islam, thus giving the Islamic religion a philosophical quality. He started philosophy with logic and focused on metaphysics; He produced works in branches of philosophy dealing with language, politics, nature and mind; He developed musical instruments and wrote on music and psychology. He ensured the development and preservation of Islamic philosophy and influenced the Western medieval thought, which had to benefit from Arabic translations of Ancient Greek-Latin works and called itself Alpharabius. The Ideal State is the last of his 103 known works and reflects Farabi's philosophy from all angles. In the work, the qualities of the First Being, how other beings came into being, the degrees of beings, their counterparts in the organs, the qualities of the person who will manage the city/society that functions like a body, the types of cities/society, and the strengths and weaknesses of each are discussed.
