İçimi Aydınlatan Işık
FROM WHERE?
I was little, my father was still alive; Family members and my father's friends are all together at the table set at home. The reign of two shared bites, raki in steamy glasses. The taste of the lakerda made by Adil Efendi, a fisherman from Anadolu Hisar, the husband of my veteran Grandma Fatma, and the kippers he made from mackerel strung on strings and dried... This is the first time I've sat at the adults' raki table, no one interferes with whether you ate or not, and I'm very happy with my situation.
One of the poems exchanged, sung by my father, made me cry:
"Don't cry, weeping willow, don't cry,
Don't rely on the mirror of Karasuyu!
A wounded horseman who falls off his horse is left alone under the weeping willow at the water's edge; The sounds of the horses' hooves of his friends with whom he rides become inaudible as they move further away...
That was enough for me, who was afraid of darkness and loneliness... Of course, what was also interesting for me was that the raki on that table turned white when water was added. Many years have passed, and when I listened to the voices at those tape-recorded poetry evenings, I thought that I had to pay the debt of having received my share of the emotional verses of the grudges of those tables that are no longer alive when I was a child. Over the years, I wanted to share some of my own writings in print rather than by talking to my relatives around a table like I saw in my childhood...
That's why this little booklet came about.
