Hobbes and Republican Freedom
Quentin Skinner, who is considered to be one of the world's most important living historians, talks about two rival theories about the nature of human freedom in this work. The first is the Roman-derived republican tradition that flourished in Renaissance Italy. The other is the objection spearheaded by Hobbes, which is still widely discussed today. Accordingly, the radical and parliamentary claims based throughout the English Civil War constitute the basic mortar of the human freedom debate. Starting from this point, Skinner approaches Hobbes's political theory not only as a general system of ideas, but also as a polemical tool that he used to intervene in the conflicts of the age he lived in. In addition, it delicately examines what kind of change Leviathan , one of the dominant works of political philosophy, corresponds to in Hobbes's understanding of morality. A discussion that stands out among countless interpretations of Hobbes for its timeliness, comprehensiveness and eloquence.
